Originally from Verona, Wisconsin, Katherine Lonsdorf decided early on that global interaction was her passion. She started learning Japanese at age six, and by 16, was an exchange student in Okinawa, Japan. She studied Diplomacy and World Affairs at Occidental College in Los Angeles, spending her junior year abroad in Amman, Jordan studying Arabic and regional politics at the University of Jordan Language Center. Focusing in Journalism during college, Katherine wrote for Pulp Magazine (Amman, Jordan), Cafe Abroad Magazine (online), and participated in a year-long internship program at K-ABC Channel 7 News (Los Angeles, CA) where she began to learn television production.
Recently, Katherine has been working with in the New Media Department at KCET TV (Los Angeles, CA), developing an online interactive documentary series, Departures, and with Azertion Productions (Denver, CO) as a host/producer on a new cultural travel show currently in post-production and network negotiation. Her writing has appeared in Abroad View, DITZ Magazine, World Hum, The Expeditioner’s Guide to the World, Travelhoppers.com, and ProjectExplorer.org. She lives in Los Angeles, CA, and while she bartends at night, she is often caught daydreaming of faraway places. She is currently focusing on getting a career in travel television off the ground.
